Little Utopia

I lived near an aquaduct where, over time dirt gathered and enough trees and bamboo grew and grew until it was a forest. I realised that a community of people without shelter found a place to call home. Their shelter took root. I watched with amazement the deveopment of the parallel society develop, until torrential rains came and swept away everything that they had built.

I made this body of work inspired by the idea of Utopia as proposed by Thomas Moore, Aldus Huxley's Brave New World, Freud's "Future of an illusion", "Capitalism & Schizophrenia" by Deleuze and Guattari, including the dystopian novel Clockwork Orange.

The lanscape is void, overcome with waste products and trash, the park has become a home for the homeless.

I cannot say that the free market is the answer to our needs and desires. I love the comforts of what I have.

I wonder what can be done with all that we produce, do we need all of it, how will we make our presence on this planet sustainable. These are the big questions of our generations. Working toward a solution, not giving up hope. Not going forth blindly either.
