Little Utopia
I lived near an aquaduct where, over time dirt gathered and enough trees and bamboo grew and grew until it was a forest. I realised that a community of people without shelter found a place to call home. Their shelter took root. I watched with amazement the deveopment of the parallel society develop, until torrential rains came and swept away everything that they had built.
I made this body of work inspired by the idea of Utopia as proposed by Thomas Moore, Aldus Huxley's Brave New World, Freud's "Future of an illusion", "Capitalism & Schizophrenia" by Deleuze and Guattari, including the dystopian novel Clockwork Orange.
The lanscape is void, overcome with waste products and trash, the park has become a home for the homeless.
I cannot say that the free market is the answer to our needs and desires. I love the comforts of what I have.
